Cregan Judis, the pure-blood Sith Jedi, and Greye James walked down the long hallway of the Galactic Union Prison where the slaver Thagus Haz was being held. Cregan was calm and plain while Greye had a fury in his eyes that stemmed from his past with slavers. "Calm yourself," Cregan said as they moved towards the cell. "You mustn't let your anger cloud your judgement." "I know," Greye replied. "Do you honestly think he's going to tell us anything?" "He may tell us more than he thinks," Cregan said with a smile. "Watch and learn young padawan." The pair of Jedi finally made it to the cell that housed the Twi'lek slaver. Greye took a deep breath as they entered.

Thagus grinned at the two approaching Jedi. "Well, now," he said. "I must've been very good if these are the types of guards I've been assigned. Tell me: Do you HAVE to be attractive to join the Jedi, or are you two just the exceptions?" He gave Cregan and Greye a wink.

Cregan and Greye exchanged an annoyed look. "The Galactic Union is willing to offer you a shortened sentence if you tell us the whereabouts of your brother, Reyuun Haz," Cregan said calmly. Greye rolled his eyes and stared coldly at the Twi'lek.

Thagusa raised an eyebrow. "Hmm, I don't know," he said. "I'm kinda getting used to this place. A free room, three grueling meals a day. It does get lonely in here sometimes. Maybe one of you could join me sometime." He winked again. "Or a Wookiee, if you have one. I've been on a real Wookiee kick recently."

"If I had my way you'd be in a cage with a Rancor," Greye bursted. "Greye! Please," Cregan said. "Perhaps another tactic will work." Cregan raised his hand and closed his eyes reaching out with the Force. "You will tell us where your brother is," Cregan said.

Thagusa strained himself as the Jedi's power reached into the deep crevices of him mind, compelling him to speak. "I...can't..." he said. "Even if I wanted to tell you where he was, I have no idea. The coward just up and abandoned me the minute he heard you guys coming. Family first, am I right?"

Cregan lowered his hand and turned to Greye. "You think he's telling the truth?" Greye asked. "I sense to trickery in him," Cregan said. "He isn't lying." "Dammit," Greye said. "So we're back at square one." Cregan turned back to Thagus. "Is there anywhere he might have run off to?" Cregan asked. Greye raised an eyebrow and crossed his arms.

"I'm his brother, not his personal assistant," Thagus said. "Like he tells me anything important about his business." He looked up at the hardened look given to him by Cregan. His red eyed seemed to burrow deep into his soul. "Try Sriluur," he continued. "I know he trades with the Weequay there a lot. But that's the extent of my knowledge."

"Thank you," Cregan said. "I'll speak with the Union about your sentence. Greye, let's go." The pair left the cell, closing the door behind them. They walked down the hallway a bit before Cregan lifted an eyebrow at Greye. "Something is troubling you," Cregan said. "Is it about your family." "Haz is one of the biggest slavers in the galaxy," Greye said. "If anyone knows what happened to my family, it's him." "Be careful how you proceed in this case, padawan," Cregan warned. "Long ago another young Jedi fell to the Dark Side vowing to free slaves." "You speak of Darth Vader?" Greye was taken aback by the comparison to the Sith Lord. "We will find your family and help them how we can," Cregan said. "But first we need to find Haz." Greye nodded and the two moved into the hangar, boarding their ship. As Cregan took his seat beside Greye in the cockpit, a bleep on the control panel indicated an incoming transmission. "The Council," Cregan said, pressing the call button. A holographic image of Liib Nexu, the elder Jedi appeared on the console. "Cregan," he said. "The Council has called an urgent meeting you are needed at the Temple." "We are on our way," Cregan said, pressing the dismiss call button. "What's happening?" Greye asked. "I don't know, but it sounds like an emergency," Cregan said. "Best be on our way." They took off and headed back to the Temple on Coruscant.
Meanwhile, at the Jedi Temple, Gungan Jedi Malewa Loosa and Saren Geth are practicing lightsaber combat. Their lightsabers clash again and again as they fight playfully with one another. As he backs up, the Gungan trips and falls, lightsaber deactivating and flying out of his hand. The room erupts with laughter as the robed figure of Jok Torn entered the room. "What's going on in here?" he demands.

Saren nervously bowed to the entering Jedi. "Sorry, Master Torn," he said. "We were just training in our down time."

"I see," Torn said sternly. "The Council has called a meeting and the Padawans are to report to the meditation room until the preceding has ended." "What-sa happenin'?" Malewa asked. "It is not a matter for Padawans. I suggest you two join your fellow Jedi in the meditation room. We will fetch you if needed." And with that Torn left for the Council chamber. "Must be sometin' moi serious if Torn gettin' nervous," Malewa said to Saren.

From the side of the room, the Hutt Jedi Master Gutta joined Torn in his walk, slithering along beside the other master as he stuffed food into his mouth. He spat a curse. "Training, they call that. Feh! Their form is weak, and they do not think of their sabers as an extension of their arm. Do they even listen to me when I speak? I'm not accidentally speaking Huttese, am I?" He shoveled more morsels into his mouth, their grease dripping down his formless chin. He offered a handful to Master Torn.

"No thank you," Torn said brushing the food away from him. "We have more important matters to attend to now. If what the Council suspects is true... May the Force help us all." Torn rubbed his forehead and stopped, hanging his head low as if overcome with a sickness.

Through a mouth of half-eaten food, Gutta said, "Are you alright, my friend?" He placed a thick hand on Torn's shoulder.

"I feel... something," Torn said, rubbing his head. "I feel... a disturbance. We must speak with the Council, now."
Cregan and Greye landed at the Temple and the pair quickly moved through the halls. "Join the other Padawans in the meditation room," Cregan said. "I'll be back shortly." Greye nodded and moved to the large open room the Jedi used for meditation. The other Padawans were sitting around in a silent nervous tension. Most were discussing the bizarre circumstances of the urgent Council meeting. Some were meditating in silence. A few were toying with some of the training sabers. Greye saw Malewa and Saren sitting and approached them. "Greye!" The Gungan cried. "You-sa back!" "Just landed with Master Cregan," Greye said. "Sounds like something serious is going down. Master Liib sounded worried." "We-sa just talkin' about dat. What'sa you-sa thinkin' Saren?"

"Whatever it is," Saren said. "It must be something serious for this many Council members to come together. If I'm remembering my history right, the last time a meeting like this occurred was in response to a Sith uprising."

"The Sith were wiped out when the Empire fell," Greye pointed out. "You don't honestly think this has anything to do with them?"

"Ooooohhhhh..." Malewa moaned. "Me-sa no want to tink about da Sith-in. Tha-sa bad juju." Greye sighed. "The Sith aren't back, Malewa," he said. "If they were back we'd feel it, right? The Force would be unbalanced or something, wouldn't it?"

"We're only padawans, Greye," Saren said. "We probably can't sense things like the masters can." He tried to focus his mind on the Force, but he felt no such disturbance. Not that we would even be familiar with what such a disturbance would feel like...
Back in the council chamber, Master Cortelia Frey had just entered, and took her seat among the Council. "Shall we begin?" she asked. "What is the meaning of this summons?"

"Several members of the Council have felt a great disturbance in the force," Master Liib explained. "A disturbance the likes of which have only been recorded during the ancient Clone Wars." "What does it mean?" asked Master Torn. "It is unclear," Liib said. "But we must suspect the worst. The Sith may be on the rise." There was an audible mumble among the members of the Council. The room was now abuzz with speculation and gossip. "Can we be sure of this?" Cregan asked. "Who cares?" Interrupted young Master Demmos Visc. "If the Sith are back I say we take the fight to them and wipe them out like the rebellion did after the fall of the Empire." "This is not a matter to be taken lightly," Liib said. "We can't be certain, but we do know that the Force has become unbalanced. We've all felt it. The anger, the rage. If the Sith have returned we need a plan." "It seems strange," Cregan said. "There can only be two Sith Lords. And the last two were killed during the fight between the Empire and Rebels. The Inquisitors that were left behind were hunted down and killed. It doesn't seem likely that the Sith could have returned like this." "Then explain the disturbance in we felt," Torn said. "I felt no disturbance," said the pure-blood Sith. "We just need to be sure before we start jumping to conclusions. There isn't any proof that the Sith are back." "Come to think of it, I didn't feel anything either," Demmos said. "Torn and I did," Liib said. "Anyone else?"

"I felt something," Gutta said. "Though I thought it was merely indigestion. 'Imbalance' would be the word I would use to describe it." "While I have felt no such feeling," Frey said, "I feel we should be vigilant anyway. Whether the Sith have returned or not, we should be ready. The Jedi have fallen prey to surprise Sith uprisings in the past, and history should not repeat itself."

"Agreed," said Torn. "We cannot afford a Sith attack while the Galactic Union is still in its infancy." "Now, hold on," Cregan said. "You're all talking as if you know the Sith are back. Shouldn't we find some evidence before we go storming off declaring war on an enemy we don't even know is there." "No one's declaring a war," Liib said. "I agree that we need to proceed with caution, but we must find the source of this disturbance. Sith or not, whatever this is, it must be stopped." "Could it be Rectar?" Torn asked. "No," Liib said. "If it was Rectar we'd all know about it. Plus, his presence isn't this strong." "We need to do something," Demmos said. "Let me go track down this disturbance." "No," Cregan said. "You said yourself, you can't feel it. Besides, you're needed here with your apprentice. The two of you will be going to Sriluur to track down Haz." Demmos sighed and sat back in her chair. "As you wish." "Torn and Liib should investigate this matter further as they seem to be the most susceptible to this disturbance," Cregan suggested. "Perhaps you should accompany us," Liib said. "Your knowledge of the Sith may prove useful should our search bare fruit." "Of course." "Frey," Torn said. "We need you to prepare the Padawans in case of an emergency, but they must not learn of what we've discussed here."

"Understood," Frey said. "But I will need Gutta's help in this matter. He is more qualified than myself in such harsh trainings." Gutta bowed his head. "You are too kind, Master Frey. And it would be my honor to work alongside my former padawan once again."
Outside the council chamber, Saren had his ear pressed towards the door, listening intently to what was transpiring within. While he couldn't hear exactly everything that was said, he heard enough to understand the bare essentials.

"They're saying something about the Sith returning," Saren said, "though some of the masters are doubting this accusation. Apparently Masters Frey and Gutta will be training us in preparation for such an uprising."

Before Saren could answer, the door to the council chamber slid open. Master Frey stared at the two padawans with an icy glare. Behind her, the other masters could be seen, looking on with equally disappointed looks. "First lesson," Frey said. "Respect privacy."

On the unknown planet of Carrivar, the newly founded Sith Council gathers to discuss its plan. At its head Darth Kronus sits proudly with his apprentice Darth Tartarus as the rest of the Sith gather. Darth Zufyz, the Wookiee, Darth Utinni, the Jawa, and RS-X13, the assassin droid, all gather in the circular chamber of the newly built Sith Temple. "Our plans are almost complete," RS-X13, sometime called 'Bolts', said in his low toned robotic voice. "The trainees are learning quickly and will soon be able to take on the Jedi."

Kronus made a satisfying grunting noise. "Good, that is. Very good. An attack on the temple, we will be able to make soon." "Master Kronus," Tartarus said. "Have you given any thought as to who shall lead the charge on the temple?" "Decided, I have, Darth Tartarus," Kronus said. "The leader of the strike force, Rectar Pholdarn shall be." Tartarus looked at his master with a shocked expression. "But Master, I have trained by your side for years. I suspected I would be the one to lead the strike." "Valiant in your efforts, you are. Yet potential in Pholdarn, I see. A great power within him, I sense. A great destiny." Tartarus stood up. "Master, I don't--" Kronus clenched his hand in the air, and Tartatrus started to choke, clutching at his crimson throat. The other Sith looked on in terror. "Questioning my orders, are you?" Kronus asked. "Who is in charge here, need I remind you? Who took you in and trained you in the ways of the Sith, need I remind you?" Barely able to breathe, Tartarus choked out, "I'm...sorry...Master....Pholdarn...shall lead....the strike..." Kronus released Tartarus, who collapsed to the floor, choking and sputtering. "A warning, that shall serve as." He turned to the other Sith council members. "Any other dissenters, are there?"
